Meet our WPC team!
Sally Bromley
Our Branch Ambassador Sally Bromley was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2008. She is a Trustee of Parkinson’s UK and a passionate advocate for patient involvement in research, clinical practice, clinical education, care, and health technology innovation. As an Expert Patient Tutor for the medical course at Oxford University Hospitals she helps tomorrow’s clinicians learn about, and be confident with, neurological conditions. She is co-author with Dr. Gina Hadley and Prof. Gabe de Luca of poster P43.15 (Thursday, poster tour 20) celebrating the contribution of Expert Patient Tutors to medical education.
Paul Mayhew-Archer
Diagnosed in 2010, comedy writer Paul then developed his talent for stand-up performance and his passion for raising funds and awareness for Parkinson’s. His one-man comedy show about Parkinson’s, Incurable Optimist, has toured to dozens of venues and raised nearly £100,000 for local support groups across the UK. He will be talking about the funny side of Parkinson’s in Special Session FSL1 at noon on Friday 7 July.
Dr Kevin McFarthing
Originally trained as a biochemist, Dr McFarthing led R&D groups in several major
pharmaceutical companies. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2012 and is now Clinical
Trials Highlights editor of the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease. We are extremely fortunate that he
acts as our branch’s Research Officer.
Kevin is a member of WPC’s Basic Science Subcommittee. He is co-moderator of
Plenary session WP1 Do biological subtypes of Parkinson’s exist?
on Wednesday morning, and host of Round Table 5 Independent patient research -
valuable contribution or uncontrolled data? in session WRT1 on Wednesday at 1.30pm.
He is also co-author of several poster papers relating to clinical trials:
P38.12, P38.13, P38.18, P38.38, P38.39, P38.42 and P46.01.
Martin Cowell
Diagnosed in 2017, Martin is Acting Chair and Visits Coordinator for the Oxford Branch of Parkinsons UK as well as a trustee of Parkinsons.Me, another Oxfordshire charity. He is a passionate believer in exercise and staying positive. He manages a weekly walking group and undertakes longer-distance trips with a small group of friends: having first walked together over the Cotswold Way, they have since tackled the D’Arcy Dalton Way, the Heart of Wales Line Trail, the Palladian Way and currently the Oxfordshire Way. Martin continues to pursue his love of travel, particularly if it involves getting on trains.
Jonathan Bromley
Jonathan is the only member of the Oxford Branch WPC team who does not have Parkinson’s. As Sally’s partner he strives to learn as much about the condition as he can, and as an enthusiastic member of Oxford Branch he looks after audio-visual and digital provision for our activities.
Dr Gina Hadley
We are delighted that Dr Hadley will join us in Barcelona. Gina is Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Neurology in Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences. As an Associate Medical Tutor at Harris Manchester College, Oxford, she is developing novel educational approaches in the clinical medical course - including the Expert Patient Tutor scheme that Sally Bromley serves on. You can find more about Expert Patient Tutors in Gina’s poster P43.15.
