Surprise, surprise!

 Sally Bromley

It felt a bit like being on a TV show when I was invited to join the reception to mark 50 years of the Parkinson’s Disease Society, now called Parkinson’s UK, by kind invitation of the Duchess of Gloucester. I soon learned that Paul was also invited so we travelled by train together. Held at Buckingham Palace it was surreal to be walking through the front gate and into the Palace. Once inside I was whisked to one side and told to “stand beneath the Canaletto”. Eh? Which is the Canaletto? I stood beneath it.

The champagne flowed and the neat canapés were delicious. Then speeches sharing the development of the charity. The Duchess, who is Patron, was introduced to many including those standing beneath the Canaletto, and I was introduced as the Chair of one of the most successful branches. A proud moment.
