This is a big part of our success story. The 2017 year brought in £104,000. From BBQs to concerts, from small coffee mornings to big cream teas, from people asking for donations rather than gifts at big anniversaries to holding a regular plant stall, from a bridge evening to a prestigious golf tournament, from holding pub quizzes to leaving a tin on a shop's counter, all raise money to support the membership and to fund research projects.

Sources of income

The 2017 Oxford Walk brought in over £34,000 of sponsorship (with nearly half that coming from a single walker). We received £22,300 from legacies, and nearly £25,000 from specific fundraising activites. The remaining income came mostly from donations, with smaller contributions from members' subscriptions, surplus on the conference and other activities, and regular schemes such as raffles and the 200 Club.

Our 2017 operating costs (admin, stationery, and costs of fundraising and membership activities) were just under £4,400 - less than 5% of our income. Everything else goes to pay for our core aims: donations to research, subsidies for classes and activities that benefit our members, and direct support to members such as respite care.

Can you help?

We are always extremely interested in supporting your fundraising efforts. Sponsored challenges, community events, concerts… for any of these we can help you with publicity materials and awareness-raising. Please get in touch with any committee member if you have a fundraising idea.

Regular fundraising

The Branch operates a 200 Club. Subscriptions are pooled and there are two winners in each monthly draw. Surplus from the 200 Club makes a valuable contribution to our funds. Find out more on the 200 Club page of our website.

At each Branch meeting there is a raffle, with prizes donated by members and wellwishers. The proceeds are used to fund taxis for members who need some help getting to and from meetings.

We are always grateful for donations, which can be made securely through our Virgin Money Giving site.
