Big Band concert, 25th Jan 2020
Thanks to the efforts of Martin Cowell and the Rotary Club of Oxford North we enjoyed a Big Band concert, superbly performed by Oxfordshire Youth Big Band. The event was sold out. Fundraising from tickets and raffle will be split between our Branch and Down’s Syndrome Oxford.
Winchester Christmas Market, 28th Nov
Many thanks to our Visits Coordinator, Martin Cowell, for arranging a very successful coach trip to Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas market. About 34 of our members and friends attended - here you can see our Chair enjoying morning sunshine with the lovely cathedral as a backdrop. Many of us also visited the cathedral itself, with its stunning recently-opened exhibition “Kings and Scribes”.
Branch Holiday pictures
We are beginning to collect some pictures and memories from our splendid Branch Holiday in Herefordshire. You can find them by following this link. Further pictures are very welcome!
At our September 2019 meeting, our Secretary Pen Keyte presented a collection of resources and support that can help to answer your questions raised in the August meeting. It's available online, with clickable web links, by following this link.

Research projects invite our participation
Two interesting research projects are recruiting participants now.

The first, led by King’s College London and funded by Parkinson’s UK, will study the effectiveness of computer-based tasks designed to change and reduce unhelpful anxious patterns of thought that are often encountered in depression and also in Parkinson’s. No travel is required; all activities are in your own time using your own computer. You can find more about this research, and register to participate, on the project’s website.

Another project, at the Open University, is recruiting people with Parkinson’s who have impaired gait (shuffling, short steps, uneven steps). The project will investigate the effectiveness of a small bracelet device providing a vibration stimulus that may help with gait problems. Participants will wear the device, in their own homes, for a short time every day over two or more weeks. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Annemarie Zijlema on or 07706 530656.

New material on our Research page
Our Research Officer, Kevin McFarthing, has been busy again! Alongside a wealth of other useful material, he's added a comprehensive survey of Parkinson's therapies currently in trial or development. You can find it all on our research pages.
