2018 fundraising by our members and friends

Branch members and supporters set themselves exciting challenges this year to raise funds!

Successfully completed!Carys Redmond

Not content with working hard on our behalf to keep the finances in good shape, our treasurer Carys challenged herself to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on Sunday 14th October. She completed the run in 2:02:07 in horrendously wet conditions. You can contribute to her fundraising by visiting her Virgin Money Giving page here. Thanks Carys!

200 MILES COMPLETED!Dee Hembury-Eaton

Dee rode the challenging 200-mile BOXCAM event, starting in Bristol on 22nd September. Unfortunately the Oxford-to-Cambridge leg had to be cancelled because of adverse weather, but 100 miles in wind and rain must have been plenty! Dee and some friends completed the second (Oxford to Cambridge) leg on Saturday 20th October for their own satisfaction. We think that's worth supporting. Please visit her fundraising page and sponsor her generously for this tough event.

Successfully completed!Jonathan Bromley

Our Chair's husband decided it's about time he did something to raise money, and he chose to walk the Hadrian's Wall National Trail. The 84 mile trek took 5 days from 11th to 15th June.

UPDATE:

Jonathan raised nearly £3000 including Gift Aid. You can read all about the trip on his blog.

Successfully completed!Kevin McFarthing

Kevin is our Research Officer who keeps us up to date with the latest in Parkinson's research, but he swapped his library card for running shoes for the Vitality London 10k on 28th May. He raised funds for Parkinson's UK and Cure Parkinson's Trust. You can sponsor him for this fantastic effort by visiting his fundraising page. Kevin is a veteran of the PD Warrior exercise classes that help him to keep Parkinson's under control, so we reckon that a 10k doesn't stand much chance against him!

UPDATE:

Completed in the brilliant time of 1:03 - OK, maybe just a sniff slower than Sir Mo Farah's 29 minutes, but WELL DONE Kevin! - and congratulations on raising more than £4000 to split between Cure Parkinson's Trust and Parkinson's UK.

Successfully completed!Richard Hawes

Richard didn't let Parkinson's stop him climbing 249 steps to the top of Guildford Cathedral's tower and then leaping off it to abseil 160 feet down to the bottom. This event was staged by Parkinson's UK and took place on the morning of Saturday 12th May.

UPDATE:

We're thrilled that Richard was able to raise £2600 for Parkinson's UK.

Successfully completed!Michael Truby

After a break of several years from marathon running, Michael – son of our members Peter and Rose – took on the 2018 London Marathon on 22nd April. He has generously committed his sponsorship income to the Cure Parkinson's Trust. You can contribute at his Virgin Giving page.

UPDATE:

Our congratulations go to Michael, who completed the London Marathon in 4:38 and raised £2700.

Successfully completed!Kathryn Greenwood

Kathy, the daughter of our members Mike and Joan Greenwood, ran the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April. We're hugely grateful for her efforts in raising funds for our Branch.

UPDATE:

Kathy completed the Brighton Marathon in just under 4¾ hours - a terrific achievement and a personal best. Well done, and thanks! Her sponsorship total has now hit £2000 including Gift Aid. It's not too late to sponsor her…
